Study Tours

Study Tours

Study Tours are a great tool that enables donors to see the sustainable solutions that Bóthar provides in projects throughout the world. Study Tour participants have a unique opportunity to see first-hand how their donations are changing lives and protecting the earth. If seeing is believing, then our donors become believers because of their study tour experience.

Study Tours are part of Bothar’s educational mission. Participants are given the chance to see how Bóthar works in the field, how the organisation interacts with communities and brings families and entire communities out of poverty.

Future Study Tours:

Spring 2009 – Tanzania

Autumn 2009 – Kosovo

China Study Tour

China

Pat Carton Roscommon Support Group in the company of Pat McCarrick, Study Tour Director with Bóthar.

Pat Carton from the Bóthar support group based in Co. Roscommon was a participant in a recent Study Tour that took a contingent of friends of Bóthar in Ireland to see projects that the charity supports in China.

One of the projects visited was based in Alax League in Inner Mongolia. The aid provided by Bóthar here involved funding the provision of a dairy unit. 200 milking cows owned by individual farmers are fed and milked in a communal purpose built unit. The cows return to their owners during their dry period.

The project is centred in a semi-desert area formerly populated by local nomadic tribes. These nomads are now settled is a fertile oasis in the desert and the cows and the milking unit for the mainstay of the livelihoods. Heifer China is project partners to Bothar with regard to the implementation and running of this particular scheme.

The Co. Roscommon support group of Bóthar fundraises and also supply live heifer donation to the charity on an ongoing basis. Bóthar would like to acknowledge the efforts of this group in their support of the organisation.
